Come Alive’s Pillars:

Volunteering

  • Dozens of community members gift their time to facilitate volunteer-run creative art experiences. Every summer, we collaborate with instructing artists to design customized curriculum. Our instructors range from industry professionals to highly skilled artisans. Credentials are applauded but not necessary. Previous subjects have included drum circle communication, songwriting, ballroom dancing, machine learning, and coding. These opportunities create sparks of inspiration and expand the imaginations of students who may not have had exposure to creative outlets. Our volunteers share their passions which leads to community growth. 

  • Volunteers serve in a variety of roles, as instructors and mentors. If you’re ready to give back, and are interested in community building, your time will be valued when joining us. 

  • As a mentor, your presence will cultivate care as you build trust and familiarity with the students as a role model. 

Legacy Knowledge

  • Legacy knowledge is the sharing of intergenerational wisdom, which comes alongside sharing one’s time. We foster environments where curiosity is nurtured and celebrated; and inquisitive minds are connected with expertise. This allows children to learn about themselves and the world around them. 

  • Passing on your knowledge is a wonderful way to ensure our community continues to thrive. As an instructor, your artistic talents will enhance the creativity of young minds, demonstrating how the arts are a tool for self-expression and an avenue for future career endeavors. 

Affordability 

  • Access is essential to us; we do not want parents or guardians to choose between this fantastic opportunity and their family’s basic needs. We want to make high-quality art accessible. We fundraise to offset the cost of the curriculum and materials. Because we’re able to keep our operating costs low, we pass on those benefits to the families. We specifically aim to work with historically underserved communities. 

  • Our programs center on family systems with limited support. We want to ease the financial burden of caregivers who are unable to afford quality, high-impact summer programs for their students. We value equity and ensure anyone who wants to be a part of our camps is able to.

Self-Discovery

    • We connect with many youths and opt to nurture a student’s interest, not just supervise them. Our mentors fully integrate into the curriculum by encouraging creative risk and vulnerability among new and unfamiliar experiences. Knowledge itself is expansive. As each child is challenged and exposed to different perspectives, their critical thinking and self-confidence sharpen and grow.

    • We aim for students to fully explore what fascinates them and guide them on their journey of self-discovery. Come Alive teaches a child the tools required for self-healing and self-reflection. We intentionally choose our subjects and focus on substance within every lesson. Our program imparts the vital skills needed to thrive in an ever changing world.
